FA Cup: Chelsea beat Manchester United 1-0 to reach semi-finals
Chelsea are through to the semi final of the FA cup after defeating Manchester United 1-0 yesterday at Stamford Bridge.
Senegalese striker, Demba Ba, made the difference in the quarter final replay as his 49th minute goal ensured the Blues are off to the Wembley Stadium for the semi final duel against Manchester City.
United was denied an equaliser when Petr Cech pulled off a stunning one-handed save to block Javier Hernandez's close-range header.
The second-half strike ended United’s Double quest, leaving Sir Alex Ferguson’s men with just the formalities of wrapping up the Premier League title to be completed.
The Red Devils could not muster up another clear cut opportunity and will now enter a tenth season without winning the FA Cup.
For Chelsea a last-four meeting with Manchester City at Wembley now beckons. And, with the west Londoners still in the Europa League, the prospect of interim boss Rafa Benitez ending the season with two trophies remains a possibility – in spite of the Spaniard’s frosty relations with the club’s supporters.
Chelsea and United had played a 2-2 draw in the first tie leading to Monday’s play-off.

Petr Cech said: "It was a great win. We know there is only one way to win the cup and we won the game in a very good fashion."
"We love the stadium (Wembley) and we respect the FA Cup as a whole - that's why we always do well."
The win came at a cost however, with left-back Ashley Cole set to miss "at least two weeks" after suffering a hamstring injury.
