Gareth Bale & Luis Suarez included in PFA Player of the Year shortlist
The nominations for the 2012/13 Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year have been announced.
The short-list includes no defenders or goalkeepers, and no representation from champions Manchester City, the biggest surprise is the absence of Swansea forward Michu, who many believe to be the signing of the season.
Gareth Bale is the favourite to be named the PFA player of the year after topping the six-man shortlist released today.
The Welsh winger, who has enjoyed a remarkable season for Tottenham, is currently out injured but has scored 22 goals in 38 matches – propelling the side towards a top four finish.
Bale is the clear favourite to scoop the prize, but he will face competition from Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who has arguably enjoyed a more impressive season with his 29 goals in 43 matches for the off-the-pace Reds.
Other rivals will come in the form of current holder of the title Robin van Persie, now of Manchester United, while Chelsea’s play-maker duo of Juan Mata and Eden Hazard are also included.
