Wigan shock Manchester City to win FA Cup for first time
Wigan Athletic claimed the first major trophy in their 81-year history when Ben Watson's last-minute goal won the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley.
After seeing out some early City pressure, Wigan had their chances. As both teams sparred with gentle probing attacks on the oppositions defence, keeping the tale of the final tight in the balance.
The Blues were a shadow of the team we saw last season, and the pre-match talk of Manuel Pellegrini being close to replacing Roberto Mancini as manager suddenly took on a lot more credibility.
Ben Watson’s late headed goal made it a fairytale day for Wigan, and a bright, bright day in the middle of their grim fight to stay in the top flight.
The goal was just reward for Wigan, whose drive and intensity was in sharp contrast to the desperately lacklustre display served up by City as last season's Premier League champions end this campaign empty-handed.
It is the first time that Wigan have ever won the competition and they will now represent England in next season's Europa League.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez praised his side's "incredible" 1-0 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
"We were playing an incredible side. We didn't win by luck - from start to finish it was an incredible performance," he told reporters after the match.
"The FA Cup is such a special tournament, and everyone deserves to feel proud today."
