Manchester United hold 1-1 Bayern Munich in Champions League

Manchester United produced a solid display at Old Trafford last night as they held 1-1 reigning champions Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Bayern dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances as United defense was on top of their game.

After a goalless first half, the Red Devils opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Nemanja Vidic headed home from Rooney’s corner kick.

But nine minutes later the Bavarians levelled the game as Mario Mandzukic headed down Rafinha's cross to set up Bastian Schweinsteiger who rushed into the area and finished clinically into the top corner.

Schweinsteiger had already been booked for a foul on Michael Carrick and referee Carlos Velasco Carballo showed him the second yellow card when he brought down Rooney in stoppage time. The midfielder will miss the second leg at the Allianz Arena next week.

Guardiola did not look happy after the game with Velasco Carballo decision.

"He's a very good referee. He made a very, very good game but it's unfair [this red card]. But it's OK. If you want to win the Champions League you have to solve and overcome everything during the competition. I gave my opinion to the referee, that's all," he told reporters.
