Manchester United to Host Club Brugge in Champions League Play-Offs
The draw for the 2015 – 2016 Champions League play-off has taken place and Manchester United look forward to an exciting upcoming tie with Club Brugge this month. The Reds will host Club Brugge as the Champions League returns to Old Trafford with a home leg that takes place on Tuesday 18th August.
The Reds kicked off their 2015 - 2016 Premiership campaign with a 1-0 win in the heat against the Spurs due to a 22nd-minute own goal by Kyle Walker, debutant goalie Sergio Romero, and leadership of Man Utd captain and tallisman, Wayne Rooney.
Man United’s new goalkeeper Romero made his Man Utd Premiership debut, holding the Tottenham Hotspurs to a clean sheet. The Reds looked fit and well rested after their recent fight in Germany.
The Londoners mounted some late pressure but Louis van Gaal's side held on to give Van Gaal a welcome victory and three points as a present on his birthday.
Man of the match was Matteo Darmian.
Manchester United’s squad included Romero; Darmian (Valencia 80), Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Carrick (Schweinsteiger 60), Memphis (Herrera 68), Schneiderlin; Mata, Rooney, and Young.
After the match, Louis van Gaal remarked, "It was a very difficult game because it was two teams who wanted to press, but today was very special because it was also my birthday and my children are here and my grandchildren are here, and when you lose it’s not a nice day. I will have a good birthday party tonight in my favorite restaurant."
