Arsenal Update: 2015 – 2016 Fixtures & Tickets
FC Arsenal Starts 2015-16 Campaign with New Goalie Petr Cech
Arsenal veteran boss Arsene Wenger has convinced 33 year old superstar goalkeeper Petr Cech to join the Gunners from arch-rival London club Chelsea for £10m on a long-term contract.
In the Gunners opening match defeat by West Ham United, Cech appeared shaky. However he appeared more confident away at Crystal Palace when Arsenal won 2-1. Cech has yet to earn a Premier League clean sheet for Arsenal.
Cech made more than 400 Chelsea appearances during his 11 years at Stamford Bridge, winning the Premier League Golden Glove award three times. Named Czech Footballer of the Year seven times, Cech made his international debut in 2002 and has 114 caps for his national team - only four less than Karel Poborsky’s all-time record.
“Petr Cech is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am very pleased that he has decided to join us. He has proven over many seasons that he is one of the outstanding keepers in the world and he will add great strength to our squad,” said Wenger.
Cech replied that he has the same commitment to football, motivation and hunger for success as he had at the beginning of my career, and that he loves the challenges brought by the top quality players you face while playing in the Premier League.
