Julian Draxler teed up Vieirinha for a simple goal putting the Germans ahead 2-1. Late goals from Naldo and Guilavogui resulted in a 3-2 victory for Wolfsburg.
The loss for Man United combined with PSV Eindhoven's winning their match against CSKA Moscow, cost Louis van Gaal’s side their chance for Champions League glory this time around – and resulted in Manchester United being consigned to the Europa League along with Porto, Olympiacos, Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla (Europa League title holders), Valencia, Galatasaray, and Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Mancunians will face their opponents FC Midtjylland in Man United’s last 32 tie in the Europa League. Manchester United’s first leg will be played away on Thursday, February 18, 2016. The UEFA rules dictate that the 12 Europa League group winners and the four best third-placed teams from the Champions League group stage - one of which is United - will be drawn against the 12 Europa League group runners-up and the remaining third-placed teams from the Champions League.
Sides from the same nation cannot face each other, which means that Man Utd will not play Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur in the Last 32 and in the Last 16 as well.

Tottenham Hotspur finished on top of UEFA Europa League Group J after beating Monaco 4-1 at White Hart Lane, London, ending up three points ahead of Anderlecht after five games. The Lilywhites were exceptional in their strategy against Monaco with a first hat trick ever by Erik Lamela at White Hart Lane.
