Capital One Cup Final 2016: Liverpool v Manchester City Tickets

Liverpool and Manchester City to battle for Capital One Cup 2016 trophy on Feb 28th

On Sunday February 28, 2016, FC Liverpool and Man City will clash at Wembley Stadium in London, England to determine who will win the prestigious League Cup trophy this campaign. Sitting at the top of the English Premier League in 4th place, Man City are considered the favorites to win the competition. Liverpool have moved up to 8th place in the EPL going into Match Week 27.

Title-chasing Manchester City came from behind to set up a Capital One Cup Final fight with Liverpool at Wembley after beating Everton 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium securing a 4-3 aggregate victory. Unfortunately, a major downside was the loss of Belgium Kevin de Bruyne through injury late in the match. Meanwhile, the Reds were eliminated 2-1 by West Ham from the FA Cup tournament on Tuesday. Liverpool’s FA Cup exit gives Jergen Klopp’s side a chance to refresh with a 10-day break ahead of the League Cup Final. Superstar footballers Coutinho and Sturridge are back in form.

Liverpool’s Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Henderson, Coutinho, Firmino, and Sturridge are expected to comprise Klopp’s starting XI with a potential attacking trident of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge. Going out of the FA Cup was painful for Liverpool’s men. However the loss will allow the Reds to focus on winning their three remaining competitions this season – the EPL, Capital One Cup, and Europa League tournaments. Winning Europa League glory would mean a place in next season’s Champions League for Liverpool. Klopp should have a refreshed, in form squad ready to battle against Manchester City at Wembley for the 2016 Capital One Cup silverware on February 28th.

The Reds have been plagued by injury this season as they competed in an average of two+ matches per week since Klopp arrived to replace Rodgers in October. In Premier League Match Week 26 action, Aston Villa were overwhelmed by FC Liverpool, suffering their worst home defeat since 1935 as Daniel Sturridge, James Milner, Emre Can, Divock Origi, Nathaniel Clyne, and Kolo Toure all scored important goals. After Liverpool’s stunning 6-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday, Klopp and his Liverpool side travel to Augsburg for the first-leg of their Europa League last-32 clash. The titan Reds are expected to beat Augsburg who are currently 14th in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool should name a strong starting line-up in Germany, with no FA Cup fifth round commitments and a rare, free weekend on the horizon. If Liverpool get ahead in the first leg of the tie, that will allow Klopp to rest key figures seven days later at Anfield giving them a 10-day break heading into the exciting Capital One Cup Final showdown at Wembley. Despite getting off to an uninspired start this season there are recent signs that things are starting to come together for the Red’s. Firmino has been Liverpool’s most important football player so far in 2016. Klopp will no doubt be careful in not overplaying his dynamic trio of Coutinho, Sturridge, and Firmino against Augsburg so they will be in fighting form against City.

Due to dropping out of the FA Cup, Klopp will be able to enjoy a good run of training sessions to have his side perfectly drilled for Wembley. The confidence that a Capital One Cup triumph would bring in Klopp’s first season as Liverpool manager would be healing and empowering for the side. Meanwhile, City lost 1-2 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in their Match Week 26 EPL match that put the Spurs up into 2nd place. Manchester City head to Wembley as the club favored to lift the trophy, but Liverpool may offer a surprise finish.
