Wales v Northern Ireland – Who wants it most?

Football tickets for Wales v Northern Ireland are still available for Saturday’s fixture. Both teams have done so well to date in their respective clashes that the leading strikers of both sides are confident that their team will win the match and go on to the quarter-finals! Twenty-six year old Wales and Real Madrid superstar forward Gareth Bale and twenty-eight year old Ireland and Norwich forward Kyle Lafferty each scored seven goals in qualifying.

Euro 2016’s joint top goal scorer Bale remarked that Wales "ultimate goal" is to win Euro 2016; and Lafferty said Northern Ireland "can go all the way" in France. "Obviously you come to the tournament for one reason - to win, not to play three games and go home," said Bale, who scored three goals in the Euro 2016 Group Stage.

The ultimate goal is we want to try and win the tournament,” added Bale. "It's a cliche but we'll take each one as it comes. Yes, we would love to win it, but all our focus now is on Northern Ireland."

"They topped their group, you don't do that by mistake," said Bale about Northern Ireland’s record in the qualifying stage. "They have very similar team spirit to us. They are a bit more defensive than us - it will be difficult to break them down, but we will try our best."

Led by delighted manager Chris Coleman, Wales qualified for the Euro 2016 Round of 16 as Group B winners ahead of England. Michael O'Neill’s Northern Ireland side qualified by finishing in third place in Group C.

Wales and N. Ireland are in the opposite bracket of the draw from England, current world champions Germany, reigning Euro 2012 champions Spain, four-time World Cup winners Italy and Euro 2016 hosts France.

"We honestly believe with our heart and determination that we can beat anyone,” said Lafferty. "With the squad we have I honestly am sitting here thinking we can go all the way. If we get a bit of luck we can upset a few teams.

"Stopping Bale is the big question - he's a very big part of their team as a player of that calibre is going to be - we'll look at areas where they are strong and areas that we can exploit,” continued Lafferty. "It'll be interesting to see who it wants it most on Saturday. I believe we'll come out on top."

Veteran defender Aaron Hughes, Northern Ireland's second most-capped player of all time with 102 caps, looks forward to the support of fans and great atmosphere at the historic crucial match.

"It'll be a fantastic game," said Hughes. "I think the atmosphere will be tremendous - as good as any here.”

"We're in such a position here to create history that can last a long time and we don't want to let go of that,” said Northern Ireland’s popular defender Jonny Evans. "We want to go as far as we can and not waste this opportunity."
