Manchester United update

Manchester United update: transfers, fixtures, schedule, tickets

Manchester United players returned to training after an 11-hour flight coming back from their games at the 2016 International Championship Cup in China with new Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho full of praise for his side’s commitment to be fit and ready for victory in the upcoming pre-season matches. At 6:30 am Mourinho’s Manchester United side went straight into a training session after returning to England after their tour of China. Mourinho decided to change his plans after United’s friendly with cross-town rivals and “noisy neighbors” Manchester City was cancelled in Beijing due to a day of heavy rain that resulted in a poor pitch.

Portuguese manager Mourinho lauded his players' dedication and commitment after the early morning post-flight training session. "They are a great group of boys and the intensity of the session shows they are very professional in their outlook," said Mourinho after the training session. Manchester United take on Galatasaray on Saturday before beginning their 2016-17 England Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on August 14, 2016.

Mourinho had time to decide the fate of some of his inherited football players over the summer deciding not to include the following nine men on his side in the future as he reduces his squad to the ideal number of 24. On Mourinho’s list of casualties after a clear-out at Manchester United's Carrington training base on Thursday are:

Defenders: Tim Fosu-Mensah, Paddy McNair, Tyler Blackett, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
Midfielders: Bastian Schweinsteiger, Andreas Pereira, Adnan Januzaj
Strikers: Will Keane, James Wilson

High profile German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger was the biggest surprise on Mourinho's clear-out Thursday that saw nine players train with Under 21s and told they can leave United permanently or on loan as the new boss wants to whittle the squad down to 24 players. Thirty-one-year-old Schweinsteiger played his last game for United after a £7million signing from Bayern Munich last summer that was disastrous due to his injuries. The German still has two years of a £160,000-a-week contract left. All nine footballers were told personally by Mourinho of his decision and trained with the Under 21s at Manchester United's training base at Carrington on Thursday rather than with the senior squad and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Tim Fosu-Mensah have been told they are out for the coming season. Brazil Under 20 midfielder Andreas Pereira was told to go out and gain first-team experience on loan. Striker James Wilson was told he has options and is part of United's long-term plans if he chooses to stay and play in the Under 21 side or Wilson can choose to go out on loan. Veteran football manager Mourinho has signed Eric Bailly, Henrik Mkhitaryan, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer and is involved in a world-record £100million bid for Paul Poga this week upon his return from China.

Twenty-year-old Belgian-born midfielder Andreas Periera was signed from PSV Eindhoven in 2012 and has made only two starts and 11 subs for United since then. Periera has scored only one goal since his signing against Ipswich Town in a Capital One Cup match last campaign. Pereira will probably go another Premier League club or to a major European league, Following their friendly in Sweden this weekend, United face Everton in Wayne Rooney's testimonial on Wednesday followed by the prestigious Community Shield at Wembley against Premier League champions Leicester City on August 8

Old Trafford will feature a wealth of talent in the 2016 – 2017 England Premier League season with captain Wayne Rooney, newly hired superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and possibly Paul Progba.

There is a buzz about Zlatan Ibrahimovic as fans and team-mates wonder what to expect from the powerful, experienced superstar striker in the upcoming season. Thirty-four-year-old Ibrahimovic recently remarked that he turned down David Beckham to join the powerful Man United club. Ibrahimovic said that he turned down an offer from “good friend” David Beckham to join Beckham’s Miami team in order to reunite with his former manager Jose Mourinho. Over the summer, the Swede has signed a one-year deal with Mourniho with an option for a further year. Former England captain Beckham obtained land for his Miami-based franchise that reportedly will join the MLS in 2018.

"David is a good friend of mine, and he has asked me to play for his team," Ibrahimovic said. "For now, I want to achieve big things with Manchester United, but I have a lot of respect for the MLS, and anything is possible. I would never rule out the MLS in the future. I have a contract with Manchester United, but I feel in great shape." Meanwhile Manchester United are in the final stages of a world record Paul Pogba signing and have begun drawing up legal documents around the biggest transfer in history in an attempt to re-sign France star Progba from Juventus who at 19 left the Red Devils for a small compensation fee when his contract expired in 2012. Pogba is expected to have a United medical on Friday in Miami, where he is currently on holiday.
