Copa del Rey - FC Barcelona 6-1 Villanovense; Real Madrid 3 – 1 Cadiz

Today, a Barcelona second string side walloped Villanovense 6-1 as Sandro Ramírez hit a treble in Barca’s Copa del Rey rout at the Camp Nou.cGoals from Dani Alves, Sandro Ramírez (3) and Munir El-Haddadi (2) secured the holders a place in the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey in an enthralling clash before 67,703 spectators.

Dani Alves opened the scoring for Barcelona after four minutes making it 1-0. Barca’s second goal came in the 21st minute as Sandro easily slipped the ball into the back of the net.

Juanfran Guarnido scored Villanovense’s only goal at 29 minutes, 2-1 to Barca. Then Barcelona striker Sandro scored his second, a clinical goal making it 3-1.

In the second half Sandro earned a hat-trick, and Munir scored a brace as Barcelona totally outclassed a lower league Villanovense side to earn the holders a spot in the Copa del Rey Last 16. Five minutes into the 2nd half, a cross from Mathieu was met in the air by Munir, who sent home an unstoppable header for Barça’s fourth goal.

Barça continued to pile on the misery after the break as Munir cooly slotted home goal number six scoring a second, and Sandro won another in between – final score Barcelona 6-1 Villanovense. Third-tier side Villanovense did not stand a chance.

Barca’s intensity to score goals continued, while Villanovense seemed to enjoy every second of their once in a lifetime game against the legendary titans until the final whistle. Real Madrid may be kicked out of the Copa del Rey after fielding an ineligible player in their first leg 3-1 win today against Cadiz. RFEF rules give the governing body the power to throw Los Blancos out of the competition for starting Cheryshev, the uneligible footballer.

The booking that triggered the suspension was picked up in Villarreal's 6-2 loss to FC Barcelona in last season's semifinals. Madrid manager Rafa Benitez named Denis Cheryshev to his starting eleven, but reports in Spanish media claim Cheryshev should have been suspended for the game after being booked three times in competition and given a yellow card while on loan at Villarreal last campaign.

In a shocking outcome, Benitez’s side Real Madrid may face disqualification from the Copa del Rey tournament after their fourth-round victory over Cadiz. Cheryshev’s ban was overlooked as he started against Cadiz. Russian international Cheryshev opened the scoring in the match after three minutes against the third-tier Andalusian side.

Winger Denis Cheryshev scored early, giving Real Madrid the lead at the Ramón de Carranza. However the Russia international previously had a one-game ban to serve. The 24-year-old had picked up three yellow cards while playing for former club Villarreal last season - and this was the first game that Cheryshev had to serve the accompanying ban.

Word of Cheryshev’s uneligibilty quickly spread around the Ramon de Carranza, and he was withdrawn by Benitez early in the second half, replaced by Mateo Kovacic. Reportedly Benetiz wrongly thought that there was an amnesty given at the end of last campaign which cleared Cheryshev's ban.

"Clearly, the club did not know anything, the federation had not said anything, neither had Villarreal, so we thought we could field him," Benitez explained. "As soon as we were aware, after half-time, we substituted him immediately to show good faith," explained Benetiz.

After the match, Cadiz president Manolo Vizcaino remarked that Cadiz will make a formal appeal and complaint. "The board has decided to make the complaint about the illegal lineup including the player Cheryshev. We have decided to do it, with pain in our heart, as Madrid as a club are our friend. But a firm and unanimous decision has been taken," Vizcaino told reporters.

In their Copa del Rey match, Valencia defeated Barkaldo 3-1 with goals from Joao Cancelo, José Gaya and a Daniel Parejo penalty.
