League champions Chelsea are in 13th place on the EPL table, while titan superclub Man Utd are in 5th place fighting for the Premier League title and a spot in next season’s Champions League tournament. After Man United’s defeat by Southampton on Saturday, the Red Devil’s Belgium manager Louis van Gaal wanted to resign but was talked out of it.

Van Gaal remarked that he had failed the United fans after he left the field at Old Trafford accompanied by boos at the end of the 1-0 defeat. The sixty-four-year-old van Gaal returned to his home in the Netherlands after the game to celebrate his daughter’s birthday, digest the defeat, and decide his future course of action before to first team training. Should United lose to Derby County in the upcoming FA Cup on Friday, van Gaal may walk away.

Since there is not a replacement manager planned to step up on short notice if van Gaal resigns, there is speculation that former Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson would take over with Ryan Giggs, at least until the summer. Chelsea will go into their battle with Man United inspired and confident due to their dominant performance in the Blues recent 1-0 victory against the Gunners at Emirates Stadium.

Diego Costa’s first-half strike was the only goal scored at the Emirates. Belgian Thibaut Courtois was happy that he did not have to work too hard to earn his clean sheet in Chelsea’s eighth win in a row.

“It was very satisfying,” said a delighted Courtois. “Arsenal are doing very well this season and it was a difficult game. It’s a London derby as well so for the supporters it’s massive and it was a good result.”

‘You need to win these games,” continued the Chelsea goalie. “I hope this will give us a confidence boost, we have the FA Cup on Sunday and the Champions League is coming up as well.”

Guus Hiddink’s side got off to the better start of the two clubs and were performing on high energy before Arsenal were reduced to 10 men when the Gunners Per Mertesacker brought down superstar striker Diego Costa earning himself a red card.

“After the red card we stopped playing fast, Arsenal came back into the game and they were attacking us, but in the end we won so that’s okay,” said goalkeeper Courtois. Diego Costa has now scored six goals in his last six appearances including the decisive goal against the Gunners.

Chelsea remain unbeaten since new manager Guus Hiddink replaced Jose Mourinho over a month ago. If they continue to play hard with confidence and ambition in their upcoming matches in the Premiership, FA Cup, and Champions League they will continue to win games, climb back up the table, and redeem themselves.
