EPL Week 10 Match Reports

Sunderland 1-4 Arsenal

Sunderland fans left the Stadium of Light early when it was apparent that Arsenal had absolutely walloped their team with some exquisite football coming from Arsenal superstars Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud who both scored twice each giving the Gunners an easy win. Arsène Wenger’s side are in form and confident as they continue playing as though they have their name on the league trophy. Meanwhile David Moyes’ Sunderland have registered a record-equaling worst start to a Premier League season with only two points from 10 games looking like they will be relegated next spring. Sunderland earned a spot-kick of their own against Arsenal goalie Petr Cech after the goalkeeper was booked - Defoe scored. Moyes’ players scored an equalizer making the score 1-1 for a brief time with a great penalty shot by Jermain Defoe only to go behind again with three visiting goals in eight horrible second-half minutes. “It wasn’t a difficult afternoon until the last 15 or 20 minutes. I didn’t think we collapsed,” said Moyes. “We did enough not to be beaten by that amount of goals. We’d grown into the game.” The London club had control of the match and upped their tempo as the match proceeded and could have scored even more goals.

Sunderland was booed off at the end of the game. Sunderland’s next two games at Bournemouth and at home against Hull City are crucial for Sunderland to survive relegation. However, apparently Ellis Short, the owner, and Martin Bain, the chief executive reportedly have no plans to sack their seventh manager in five years. “I’m experienced,” Moyes said. “I’ll keep doing what I do.” Wenger was delighted with his men’s resolve and performance - to see Sánchez excel in the match and with Giroud’s performance after coming off the bench. “Sánchez is doing extremely well and Giroud is mentally strong,” said Wenger. “Every time Olivier is questioned he gives you the right answer on the pitch. I admire him for that. We had a great response,” he said. “This team wants to play well together.”
